There’s something so delightful about decorating for spooky season, especially when you can do it with yarn, a hook, and some handmade magic.

This adorable crochet ghost bunting is super quick and easy to make, and it’s perfect for using up those odd scraps of yarn you’ve had tucked away. I made my set using leftover acrylic DK from a kit, proof that even a few stray bits of yarn can turn into something boo-tiful! 👻

I crocheted ten little ghosts, two in each colour, but you can make as many (or as few!) as you like, in any colour combo that takes your fancy. Imagine pastel ghosts for a soft, dreamy vibe, or classic white for timeless Halloween charm. You could even try it with some glow in the dark yarn!

If you’d rather follow along step-by-step, there’s a full video tutorial right here. But if you prefer a written pattern, you’ll find all the instructions below.

✨ Written Pattern

(Pattern written in American crochet terminology)

Materials

  • DK yarn in your choice of colors

  • 3 mm crochet hook

  • Scrap black and pink yarn for sewing the face

  • Tapestry needle

🧶 Make the Ghost

Back

  1. Chain 8

  2. Row 1: SC in second chain from hook, SC across (7)

  3. Row 2: SC, INC, SC 3, INC, SC (9)

  4. Row 3: SC across (9)

  5. Row 4: SC, INC, SC 5, INC, SC (11)

  6. Row 5: SC across (11)

  7. Row 6: SC, INC, SC 7, INC, SC (13)

  8. Rows 7–15: SC across (13)

  9. Row 16: (Skip stitch, 5 DC in next stitch, skip stitch, SC in next stitch) × 3

  10. Fasten off.

Front

Repeat steps 1–9, but do not fasten off.

Using scrap yarn, sew a smile in the center of row 8, eyes one stitch away from the mouth on row 9, and cheeks one stitch across from the eyes between rows 8 and 9.

🪡 Making Up the Ghost

  1. Place front and back pieces wrong sides together.

  2. Pick up the last stitch on the front body piece and SC into the same stitch on the back.

  3. SC up the side of both pieces to the top (approx. 1 SC per row).

  4. SC across the top (7 stitches).

  5. SC down the other side, ending at the ghost’s bottom wobbles.

  6. Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

  7. Use your needle to sew the bottom wobbles together and secure the tail.

Make as many ghosts as you’d like — I made ten for my bunting.

🧵 Attaching the Ghosts to the Bunting

  1. Using a new thread, chain 20.

  2. SC across the top of the first ghost (7).

  3. Chain 10.

  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until all ghosts are attached.

  5. Chain 20 to finish off.
